The world has grown so digital that most people in the world use mobile phones. Mobile phones are now an essential part of our lives as it is not limited to just dialling and receiving calls. The Internet has made the world a global village, and a proximate and stress-free means to reach the Internet is through your mobile phones. Mobile phones are the offices of so many people. Mobile phones are a seat for entertainment: watching videos, streaming songs, listening to podcasts, chatting, playing games and more. Mobile phones are classrooms for distant learners and through the mobile phone, one can get oneself educated. The importance and necessity of mobile phones cannot be overemphasized. Many phone users contribute to the low battery power life of their phones. Here are some things to avoid to give your phone battery the healthy care it deserves.
1. Avoid letting your phone battery get to 0%
Yes, your phone should not go off by itself. Anytime your phone goes off because it has retrogressed to 0%, it has minutely reduced the lifespan of the battery. This may be seen as something that doesn’t matter, but remember little drops of water make the mighty ocean. (Note that many modern phones do not get completely drained even if they display “No Battery”. The software was programmed in such a way that power is reserved. It’s this reserved power that helps the phone power on to display the “No Battery/ Low Battery.) After you power on your device severally when your battery is flat even to the point of using the reserved power, you cause more damage to your battery.
Never allow your battery to get to 0%. Always charge your phone when it is at a good charge level. Above 20%. You shouldn’t let your phone go below 20%.
2. Avoid Using Third-party Charger
If you want your phone battery to last, then you should consider using the right charger for the right phone. A third-party charger does not mean a charger owned by other people; it means a charger manufactured by another company. Try to use the charger that comes with your phone. If there is a need for replacement, get a certified replacement, the company’s product is a better option. (Note: Sharing your charger with others may not directly affect the battery life of your phone, but cyber security experts have warned that you should protect your charger and make it a personal belonging. This is because actors can load malware onto USB charging stations to access the device while it is being charged. )
3. Avoid Using your Phone while Charging
Some people are in the habit of using their phones while it is being charged. Using your phone while charging increases the temperature of the phone and this affects the battery health. When your phone is plugged in, you should allow it to charge. Ensure that your mobile data, wi-fi or hotspot is not turned on. They slow down the pace of charging.
4. Avoid Overheating
Different conditions can make a mobile phone overtly hot. Some of these conditions are phone overuse, overworked CPU, direct heat, outdated system and even malware. Long hours of streaming and too many apps running at the same time also contribute to the increase in the temperature of mobile phones. Avoid the conditions listed above to help your battery last longer. If you notice that your phone is overheating while charging, check to clear out the apps running from the background, unplug and use a cooler before plugging again. You may also want to remove the phone from its case.
5. Avoid Overcharging your Phone
Many people are in the habit of leaving their phones plugged even at 100%. If your phone does not automatically disconnect from charging when it gets to 100%, you should be intentional to unplug your mobile phone yourself. Perhaps, phones like this should not be left to charge overnight if it will get to 100% before dawn.
